Hamdi Malik is an Associate Fellow at The Washington Institute and a co-founder of the Militia Spotlight platform, which provides in-depth analysis of Iran-backed militias in Iraq and Syria. His work focuses on Iran’s support for terrorism, particularly the role of Iran-backed militias - most notably in Iraq - and the ideological, economic, and organizational structures that bind them to Tehran. He also studies Iran’s internal political affairs and foreign policy, with particular attention to how domestic dynamics shape its conduct abroad. He is also coauthor of the Institute's 2020 study Honored, Not Contained: The Future of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces. He speaks Arabic and Farsi.
