Dr. Sarah Feuer, Expert on North Africa, Named Soref Fellow at The Washington Institute
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Dr. Sarah Feuer, an expert on politics and religion in North Africa, has joined The Washington Institute as a Soref Fellow, the research organization announced today.
"Sarah is a brilliant young scholar who will make enormous contributions to policymakers' understanding of the nexus between politics, religion and reform in North Africa and the broader Middle East," said Executive Director Dr. Robert Satloff. "I am delighted to welcome her to our research team."
She previously served as a visiting researcher at the Institute in summer 2011.
Dr. Feuer recently completed her doctorate in politics at Brandeis University's Crown Center for Middle East Studies, where she wrote her dissertation on state-religion relations in Tunisia and Morocco. Previously, she earned her MA in Middle Eastern history from Tel Aviv University and a BA in history and French literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Fluent in French, Arabic, and Hebrew, she has extensive experience in the region, including stints living in Jordan, Israel, Morocco, and Tunisia.
Soref Fellowships are highly competitive, one-year research positions designed to enable young scholars who have already earned their master's or doctoral degrees to transition to policy-relevant research and analysis. They are named in memory of Helene and Samuel Soref, generous benefactors of The Washington Institute.
