A News-Making Anniversary Celebration

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Washington Institute celebrated its 30th anniversary last week in appropriate fashion: by bringing together policymakers, addressing current challenges, and making headlines.

The 2015 Soref Symposium featured major addresses by Vice President Joe Biden, Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew, and Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

The Institute used the occasion of its anniversary conference to release a wide-ranging policy document to help inform the final two years of the Obama administration. Written by a bipartisan group that included two former national security advisors, the paper asserts that multiple conflicts are undermining the entire architecture of the Middle East state system: "Should this weakening trend continue, we will inevitably be forced to contend with plots against not just our friends but also against the American homeland."
