Institute Corrects Misstatement in ‘Gulf Times’ and Other Outlets

The Washington Institute for Near East Policy Accepts Funding Only from American Sources

Washington, D.C. — An article in the Qatar-based Gulf Times alleges that the Washington Institute for Near East Policy is “suspected of having financial links to the U.A.E. government.” This is completely false and utterly without foundation.

By longstanding policy, The Washington Institute accepts funding solely and exclusively from American sources — U.S. citizens, foundations, institutions and corporations. Our belief is that this American-only funding policy is the most transparent and straightforward way for us to fulfill our mission: “to advance a balanced and realistic understanding of American interests in the Middle East and to promote the policies that secure them.”

We call upon the Gulf Times and all other media outlets that have reprinted this story to eliminate this malicious falsehood from their websites and to issue a clear correction which properly reports the Institute’s policy of accepting funds solely from U.S. sources.
