(Washington, D.C. -- March 28) Dr. Lori Plotkin Boghardt, an expert on Gulf politics with extensive government, academic, and private-sector experience, has joined the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, the research organization announced today.

"With so much change and turbulence in the Middle East, including in the Gulf, we are pleased to have Lori Plotkin Boghardt as a key part of our research team," said Institute executive director Dr. Robert Satloff.

Dr. Boghardt returns to the Institute where she served as a Soref research fellow in the mid-1990s. Since then, she has held analytical positions with Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), the Central Intelligence Agency, the Brookings Institution, and the RAND Corporation.

As a senior analyst and research manager with SAIC for the past nine years, Dr. Boghardt explored such topics as traditional and new media use across the Muslim world, Arab diasporas, and private sector markets in the Middle East, in the process receiving the SAIC Award of Excellence.

The author of Kuwait Amid War, Peace and Revolution: 1979-1991 and New Challenges (Palgrave Macmillan, 2007), she received her doctorate from St. Antony's College, the University of Oxford.
