Philip Gordon, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, served as special assistant to the president and White House coordinator for the Middle East, North Africa, and the Gulf region from 2013 to 2015. His distinguished career in government also includes service as assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs in the Obama administration and director for European affairs at the National Security Council under President Clinton.
