Michael Doran is a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute and author of the forthcoming book Ike's Gamble: America's Rise to Dominance in the Middle East (Simon & Schuster, October 2016). During the George W. Bush administration, he served as senior director for the Near East and North Africa on the National Security Council, senior advisor at the State Department, and deputy assistant secretary of defense at the Pentagon.
