John Allen

Gen. John Allen, USMC (Ret.), a member of the Institute's Board of Advisors, is former commander of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan. His four decades of service also included stints as deputy commander of CENTCOM and Multinational Force-West in Iraq.

Following more than 30 years in the military, Gen. Allen most recently assembled and led the international coalition to destroy ISIS as President Obama’s Special Presidential Envoy. A 1976 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Allen served as commander at every level of the armed forces. His deployments included the Balkans, Iraq, and Afghanistan where he commanded the 150,000-member NATO International Security Assistance Force. Allen is a member of the Institute’s Board of Advisors.
