Gevera Zaya is political activist from the city of Mosul. He is one of the leaders of the Assyrian Democratic Movement—operating underground during the period of Saddam Hussein—and was elected to the membership of the Nineveh Provincial Council for the Assyrian component after the fall of Saddam Hussein, where he played a key role in forming and mobilizing the local mobilization forces. This included supporting communication between U.S. and Iraqi sides. He has also published a number of articles focusing on local minorities and their future in Iraq.
