Abdulkadir Onay

Abdulkadir Onay, a lieutenant colonel in the Turkish Army, is a visiting military fellow at The Washington Institute. In two decades in uniform, he has served in various command and staff positions.

Colonel Onay earned master's degrees in international relations at the University of Hacettepe and in sociology from the University of Selcuk. He holds bachelor's degrees from the Turkish Land Forces Military Academy and the University of Ankara's Faculty of Law.

Colonel Onay and his wife, Fatma, have one daughter and one son.

Expertise: Tactics of terrorism, counterterrorism operations

Current Research: Legal aspects and socio-political effects of terrorism on Turkey's international relations

Languages: Turkish, English, French, German
